Welcome to the home of the Rockport 1000 Islands! - official website!
As most people know 2021 is a very special year for Andress Boat Works. W.E. Andress was started in 1921 with the purchase of the current location. When son Elmer joined the business that Grandpa (Ed) started, and it was known as W. E. Andress & Son. In April 1981 Art and Wendy Merkley, granddaughter of Ed, purchased W. E. Andress & Son and renamed it to the current Andress Boat Works.
This year we wanted to celebrate our 100th year of this family business and our personal 40th anniversary. We were waiting for our American friends to be able to be involved, as there are many families on the islands that have been involved with this business for many decades. That became a reality on Aug. 9th. As we started to plan it became more and more challenging due to COVID-19 restrictions. The most significant is an outside gathering must not exceed 100 people.
We really don’t want to have to limit who gets to participate. With this as the constraint, we have decided to delay celebrating until the summer of 2022. Our hope is that restrictions will be gone, and people will be able to enjoy the celebration and each other more freely.
This is not ideal, but it seems to be the most sensible option at this point.
We designed an anniversary logo, featuring the St. Lawrence Skiff and t-shirts with the Elva and this new logo, which are available in our store. Stop by and check them out and please stay tuned for this postponed event to commence summer 2022.
Thank you for your continued support of Andress Boat Works.

Congratulations to Wendy Merkley, co-recipient of the Bill Thake Memorial Award at this year’s UCLG Economic Development Summit!
The Bill Thake Memorial Award acknowledges volunteers who show outstanding leadership resulting in the growth and vitality of the Leeds and Grenville economy.
Wendy is a community champion who spearheads a myriad of projects and initiatives in the village of Rockport, as well as the 1000 Islands region.
Wendy is co-owner of Andress Boatworks, a family-run marina celebrating 100 years in business in 2021. She is Chair of the Friends of Rockport Customs House, a volunteer group, which has raised funds to purchase the riverfront property in Rockport. Through her efforts, the site now gives locals, as well as visitors, access to the St. Lawrence River and the 1000 Islands. Wendy led a team to rebuild the pier, raise and repair the building, keep the boat launch, and install benches and picnic tables. Wendy also helped recruit and train ambassadors to run the facility.
Wendy has been .a part of the Rockport Development Group and is the current Chair. The group promotes quality tourism and beautification of the village while celebrating local heritage, interpretive signs and murals. Wendy is an advocate for local business and has worked hard to address the issues of high water levels. She is the Vice-Chair of the 1000 Islands Community Development Corporation and has served on the board since 2015.
