About 20 happy people gathered for Rockport’s Café Redeemer Christmas celebrations on December 14.
Christmas doesn’t get much merrier than it does at the Café Redeemer in Rockport. About 20 cheerful souls gathered at the Church of the Redeemer on Front Street on December 14 to indulge in fun, fellowship, and festive food.
“As a community, the people of Rockport enjoy getting together and having a good time,” said Wendy Merkley, a member of the Rockport Development Group. “And at Christmas, we can share all of our favourite recipes, songs and stories with each other.”
Café Redeemer always has something interesting going, and the Christmas event was wonderful for everyone. Whether hearing about people’s experiences with the holiday when they were in far away places, remembering Christmases past, sharing a new or old story or poem from a beloved book, the day is filled with laughter and good humour. Harold Miller comes out to lead the carols on his guitar each year, and song sheets make sure that everyone knows the words. Different people get up to solo with their favourite carols, and holiday fashions are everywhere.
“The only real rule is to have a good time and enjoy each other’s company,” said Merkley.
Accompanying the music and laughter were a wide variety of homemade Christmas treats brought in by the participants and mugs of hot mulled cider.
“We at Café Redeemer wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a safe, happy and prosperous new year,” said Merkley. “We look forward to seeing everyone in 2024.”
